Muzaffarnagar: Hundreds of villagers protested against "one-sided" arrests in Muzaffarnagar riots cases after which their local panchayat passed a resolution that no policeman would be allowed to enter and arrest anyone in the village in connection with the violence.
The community panchayat at Mohammadpur Raisingh village yesterday decided that police would not be allowed to enter and arrest anyone in connection with the riots in the village.
Hundreds of people, including council head of Ghatwala Khap Harikishan Malik, protested against police raids in the village and arrests of members of only particular community in connection with last year`s riots in the district.
It decided that police would be gheraoed and not allowed entry in the village.
Special Investigation Team probing the riots had sent a list of 522 persons who were found accused in riot cases in different areas and asked the local police to arrest them.
However, police is facing resistance from irate locals who pelted stones at a police party two days ago to protest the arrest of a riot accused in the village.
A police team had gone to Mohammadpur Raisingh village on Saturday evening to arrest Anil Kumar in a case related to last year`s riots when villagers pelted stones at them, an official said.
Kumar is currently in police custody.
