U`khand govt issues GO for creation of 4 new dists

The Uttarakhand government has issued a Government Order regarding creation of four new districts of Ranikhet, Didihaat, Kotdwar and Yamunotri, officials said.

Dehra Dun: The Uttarakhand government has
issued a Government Order (GO) regarding creation of four new
districts of Ranikhet, Didihaat, Kotdwar and Yamunotri,
officials said on Thursday.

The GO, issued yesterday, however, did not mention the
borders of the districts and their headquarters, they said.

The borders and the headquarters would be decided after
the state Assembly elections due in February next year, the
officials said, adding that the appointment of District
Magistrates and SPs would also be done after the polls.

There are 13 districts in the state at present and the
new ones will take the number to 17.

Former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had
announced earlier this year that districts of Kotdwar
(presently part of Pauri district), Yamunotri (Uttarkashi),
Ranikhet (Almora) and Didihaat (Pithoragarh) would be formed
taking into account the aspirations of the people.

Soon after taking over as the Chief Minister of the state
in September, B C Khanduri had said he would make sure the new
districts were formed at the earliest.
