Centre likely to clear Kolkata BRT system soon

West Bengal government on Friday said the Centre is likely to clear the Rs 350-crore Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) for Kolkata soon.

"The proposal for BRTS has been pending since 2008,
but we expect that it will be cleared soon," West Bengal Urban
Development Minister Asok Bhattacharya told members of Bharat
Chamber of Commerce.
The BRTS will have a dedicated two-lane corridor for
buses between Garia and Ultadanga to the airport.

"The current six-lane will be widened to eight with
two lanes dedicated for buses. There will be a few flyovers to
bypass major intersections on the EM Bypass," Kolkata
Metropolitan Development Authority CEO Vivek Bharadwaj said.
