Suri: A farmer was beaten to death by a group of people at Harishpur in Birbhum district on Sunday, police said.
The trouble started over a dispute involving job card of Dulal Sheikh (35) during 100-days work in the village. Sheikh was beaten up with lathis by his opponents. He died on his way to hospital. One person has been arrested.
While Trinamool Congress claimed that Sheikh was a supporter of the party and lynched by CPI(M) cadres, the communists denied the charge.
