Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata
Banerjee on Friday said she would hold her scheduled public
meeting at Lalgarh on August 9 despite West Bengal Chief
Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee saying such meetings were not
allowed in the Maoist belt as the ultras could launch sudden
attacks.

"I will go to Lalgarh on August 9. We have a `Save
Democracy Day` programme there," Banerjee told reporters here.
Bhattacharjee said in the Assembly yesterday that while
political parties could take out processions in Jangalmahal,
permission was not given for holding meetings keeping in mind
the possibility of Maoists launching sudden attacks.

"(The Chief Minister) will give permission only to the
CPI(M). Why should this be? He is killing democracy," Banerjee
said when told about the chief minister`s statement.
Banerjee said she would visit Nanoor on July 27 to
commemorate the killing of 11 of her partymen by the CPI(M)
that day in 2000.

Banerjee said her party would gherao all police stations
in the state on August 1 from 3.00 PM to 5.00 PM against the
alleged potato bond scam and CPI(M) terror.
