Mamata Banerjee files nomination

PWD minister and Trinamool Congress state President Subrata Bakshi earlier vacated the seat for the Chief Minister to contest.

Kolkata: West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has to enter the Assembly within six months of assuming office, on Friday, filed nomination for contesting the September 25 by-election from Bhowanipore constituency in the metropolis.

Banerjee, who took over reins of the state on May 20 after Trinamool Congress` landslide victory in the Assembly polls, is currently an MP from Kolkata Dakshin constituency.

PWD minister and Trinamool Congress state President Subrata Bakshi earlier vacated the seat for the Chief Minister to contest.

The Left Front yesterday, nominated Nandini Mukherjee as the CPI(M) candidate to contest the seat.

The Front has also announced the candidature of Subed Ali Gazi of CPI(M) for the by-election from the Basirhat (North) Assembly constituency.
