Kolkata: After train services in
Howrah-Kharagpur section of South Eastern Railway were hit due
to removal of connectors in Midnapore district in the morning,
its Kharagpur-Adra section suffered due to a blockade in the
evening by the PCPA.

Movement of trains in Kharagpur-Adra section came to a
halt after about 6 pm when members of the Maoist-backed
People`s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) squatted
on the tracks between Midnapore and Godapiasal stations, SER
sources said here.

A number of trains had to be diverted or short
terminated in the section owing to the blockade reportedly to
observe `martyrs day` by PCPA.

Sources said Puri-New Delhi Neelachal Express was
diverted via Midnapore-Kharagpur-Tata-Chandil-Adra-Gomo route
while Howrah-Purulia Lalmati Express, which was on its
inaugural run, was short terminated at Kharagpur.

Down Rupashi Bangla Express was first halted at
Salbani from where it was taken back to Purulia, the sources
said adding Patna-Puri Express was diverted via
Adra-Chandil-Kharagpur-Purulia route.

Earlier in the day, passengers of the New Delhi-Puri
Purushottam Express had a narrow escape as suspected Maoists
removed the connectors between two tracks on a 400 metre
stretch near Gidni station in Midnapore district just before
the train was to cross the area.
