Seven persons were injured in a clash between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) workers at Ramnagar.

Ranaghat (WB): Seven persons were injured in a clash between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) workers at Ramnagar over putting up party flags for a TMC youth conference in Nadia district on Saturday, police sources said.

The seven were taken to the Ranaghat Hospital where five were admitted and two released after first aid, the sources said.

Hospital superintendent Ranjit Das said that 4 of the five injured were referred to Kolkata.

Police sources said that three of the injured who were referred to Kolkata were from TMC and one from CPI(M).

Local CPI(M) leader Aloke Das alleged that the TMC workers were putting up party flags on the houses of CPI(M) supporters who protested and were beaten up.

"When our workers protested they were beaten up by Trinamool goons. Former CPI(M) panchayet member Ajit Mondal`s house was ransacked and he was beaten up. He received six stitches," Das said.

TMC Ranaghat panchayet samity president, Tapash Ghosh, on the other hand claimed "Our men were putting flags on roads which was obstructed by the CPI(M) who also beat them up."
