Three Maoists were arrested by joint forces from a village here in West Midnapore district on Saturday.

Jhargram: Three Maoists were on Saturday arrested by joint forces from a village here in West Midnapore district on Saturday, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Rajoria said, the force arrested the three wanted Maoists from the house of Tarakeswar Mahto and seized a pipe-gun and five rounds of cartridges.

The three were identified as Tarakeswar himself, Tarun Mahto, and Himangshu Mahto, all residents of Gira village under Pukhuria gram panchayat (GP), he said.

Thousands of people of 31 villages in Pukhuria GP have launched a platform, Jan Jagaran Mancha, to protest against `atrocities` of activists of CPI(Maoists) and the People`s Committee against Police Atrocities.

Rajoria said, suspected Maoist cadres had attacked with bombs and bullets in Rajpara village under Pukhuria GP last week. Though none was injured or killed, villagers had sought police protection.
