WB: Rebel minister not to attend Mamata meeting

TMC minister Rabindranath Bhattacharya said he would not attend Mamata Banerjee`s administrative meeting.

Singur: Trinamool Congress minister Rabindranath Bhattacharya, unhappy since the change in his portfolio, on Thursday said he would not attend Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee`s administrative meeting here tomorrow and would also quit politics `if his health did not permit`.

"I am not leaving the party now. But if my health does not permit, I will quit politics," Bhattacharya a two-time MLA from Singur who has not been attending office after the change in his portfolio from Agriculture to Statistics, told reporters here.

Asked if he would attend tomorrow`s administrative meeting, Bhattacharya, a stalwart of the Singur agitation and a Trinamool Congress member since it came into being in 1998, said he did not get a formal invitation.

"I did not get a formal invitation to attend the meeting. So I will not go," he said.

Bhattacharya had complained that the change in his portfolio meant that the party took a dim view of his performance.

The administrative meeting, which was supposed to be held at Chinsurah, the district headquarters of Hooghly, was shifted to Singur apparently to satisfy him.
