Beijing: Chinese Communist party is likely to brainstorm on Beijing`s "uneasy ties" with US, Japan and India, amid speculation that it may also discuss whether Vice President Xi Jinping will succeed Hu Jintao as the country`s President and party chief in 2012.
The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee would hold Plenary Session from October 15-18 to review the work since its last year’s meeting, an official announcement here said.
The plenary comprising of top leadership meets once a year to chalk out the course of the policies on national and international fronts besides reviewing domestic economic situation.
This year`s plenary session would be watched with interest here for any signs to provide an indication whether widely expected to succession of Xi to replace Hu in 2012 was on his track or not.
Hu and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao were expected to quit power by 2012 after completion of their two terms in power. As per tradition followed so far the senior Vice President would succeeded the President and Party Chief.
But Xi so far was not appointed as the Vice Chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission,(CMC) as expected last year rising speculation whether there was any change of script in the offing as some reports said Hu favoured Vice Premier Li Keqiang to Xi.
The meeting was widely expected to provide an indication in this regard. Also the tensions arising out of the China-Japan dispute over Diayu/Senkaku islands following the recent detention of the captain of Chinese fishing trawler was expected to figure highly on the discussion.
The Captain was released by Japan after high intensity diplomatic campaign mounted by China galvanising nationalist sentiments all around snapping off all exchanges with Japan.
His release was portrayed as a major victory for China adding to the image of the party.
Also trade and political disputes are growing between US and Beijing with the US Congress panel approving a bill to slap trade sanctions against China for its refusal to let its currency appreciate against dollar.
The China-India ties too were undergoing an uneasy phase with India calling off all diplomatic exchanges over the refusal of visa to top Indian General in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir and plans by China to build a one gigawatt nuclear power plant for Pakistan.
Also new situation has arisen for China in the South China Sea with ASEAN countries seeking active role of US to help the resolution of their disputes with Beijing over a host of islands believed to rich with oil and gas.
The North Korea, the loyal ally of China too is poised for a leadership change with King-Jong-Il nominating his youngest son Kim-Jong-Un as his successor projecting an uncertain future for the nuclear armed country heavily reliant on Beijing from food to weapons.
On the domestic front the meeting would discuss China`s rise as the second largest economy this year, over taking Japan, withdrawal of stimulus as well as problems arising out China`s promise to reduce green house gases by 20 pre cent by this year, according to analysts here.
