GCC seeks Syria ceasefire for Haj

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called on the Syrian regime to arrange a cease-fire with rebels out of respect for the sanctity of the Haj.

Riyadh: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called on the Syrian regime to arrange a cease-fire with rebels out of respect for the sanctity of the Haj.

The council also appealed to the Syrian regime to open border crossings to allow delivery of humanitarian aid and relief in all its forms for the millions of needy people trapped and displaced inside and outside Syria, it was reported Thursday.

Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, secretary general of the GCC, appealed to all parties of the international community of states and organisations to intensify their humanitarian relief and assistance to Syrian people as winter approaches.

The GCC comprises the Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
