Mexico City: A missing truck carrying potentially dangerous radioactive material was found close to Mexico`s capital, and two men suspected of stealing it were arrested, authorities said on Tuesday.

The pick-up truck carrying radioactive iridium-192, stolen on February 28 in Mexico`s Queretaro state, was located in the state of Mexico, not far from the capital city, federal civil safety officials said.

Several Mexican states were put on alert after the truck and its dangerous cargo went missing.

Government officials said iridium-192 can be dangerous for people if not handled safely, potentially causing burns, radiation sickness and permanent injury, and can be fatal if exposure lasts hours or days.

The material, which is used in industrial radiography, belonged to the company Industrial Maintenance Center located in the city of San Juan del Rio.
