Beijing: A two-year-old boy died after his face was slashed by a nurse in southwest China, prompting authorities to sack the hospital staffer amid public outrage.
Health authorities of Guizhou Province`s launched an investigation amid public outrage following local media reports saying a nurse slashed the face of the child suffering from a congenital heart disease. The child died the next day.
The investigation found that the action seriously violated the nursing norms and reflected the loss of work ethics of the medical staff, the provincial health bureau said in a statement on Friday.
The person in charge of the intensive care unit at the Guizhou Provincial People`s Hospital was suspended and the head nurse was also removed from her post, it added.
In a letter published yesterday, the hospital publicly apologised to the family of the dead child and the general public for the severe violation of hospital regulations and loss of work ethics, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Meanwhile, the hospital struck a settlement with the dead child`s family over the medical dispute, the report said.
