France summoned Syria`s ambassador to complain about the burning of French flags and stone throwing at its missions in Syria.

Paris: France summoned Syria`s ambassador to complain about the burning of French flags and stone throwing at its missions in Syria.

French Foreign Ministry said in a statement Sunday that it also was surprised by the Syrian government protest over the visit that French and American ambassadors made to Hama, an opposition stronghold.

The French statement notes that the Vienna Convention allows ``total freedom`` of movement for envoys and makes it encumbent on states to protect diplomatic property.

The French and American ambassadors traveled together to Hama on Thursday and both were later summoned by the Syrian foreign ministry.
