Erfurt: The Vatican spokesman
Lombardi says police have in custody a man who shot a security
guard with an air rifle in downtown Erfurt ahead of a Mass to
be celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI.

The Rev Federico Lombardi said today there was "no worry"
in the papal entourage over the incident.

Police say the incident occurred more than an hour before
the Mass, on the periphery of the security zone that had been
set up.

Lombardi said the private security guard was only
slightly injured.

The Mass went ahead as planned.
