Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, will undertake a crucial visit to China as a British special representative for international trade and investment in a bid to boost economic ties between the two nations.

Prince Andrew will visit China as a British special
representative for international trade and investment from
September 2-11 and meet with senior government officials and
entrepreneurs to discuss ways to expand bilateral trade,
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said here today.

"This visit will help Britain better understand
China`s trade and investment policies and its business
environment," Jiang said.

The official hailed the development of China-Britain
trade and economic cooperation in recent years, adding that it
has huge potential.

As guest of the Chinese People`s Institute of Foreign
Affairs, Prince Andrew will also visit China`s economic hub
Shanghai.

He will also attend the `National Pavilion Day of
Britain` at the World Expo.

Jiang said former US President Jimmy Carter will also
visit China next week. Besides Beijing, Carter will also
travel to Shanghai, and central China`s Hunan province during
his six-day visit from September 5.

Carter is scheduled to attend a conference on
international sister cities in Shanghai and the fourth China
Zhijiang International Peace and Culture Festival in Hunan,
Jiang said.
