A Texas resident has been charged with conspiracy to provide material support to Islamic State, the US Department of Justice said on Tuesday.

Washington: A Texas resident has been charged with conspiracy to provide material support to Islamic State, the US Department of Justice said on Tuesday.

Asher Abid Khan, 20, of Spring, Texas, is accused of trying to travel to Syria to fight for the militant group.

He was arrested on Tuesday morning and was to appear before a Texas federal judge later in the day, prosecutors said.

If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
