Uganda police arrest opposition leader Besigye

Kizza Besigye planned to join a protest over the rising cost of living.

Kampala: Ugandan police on Monday arrested opposition leader Kizza Besigye as he planned to join a protest over the rising cost of living, police and party officials said.
"Besigye was arrested as he left his house this morning and is being held in Kasangati" police station on the outskirts of Kampala, Alice Alaso, secretary general of Besigye`s Forum for Democratic Change, said.
Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba confirmed the arrest and said it was in connection with the planned demonstration.
