New Delhi: Concerned over increasing
number of dengue cases in the national capital, Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit on Thursday directed MCD as well as the Health
department of her government to take steps to control
the spread of the disease.

The Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting
attended by Health Minister Kiran Walia and top officials of
the MCD and NDMC where she asked all the agencies to put
coordinated effort to tackle the situation.
She also asked MCD to launch awareness campaigns to
educate people about preventive measures.

Dengue cases in the city have witnessed a sudden spurt
over the last few days, but the figure is still far less than
last year, when over 1000 cases and two deaths were reported.

So far over 166 people have been affected by the
disease.

Dikshit has further directed the local bodies to make
use of FM Radio and other media to aware people about the
vector-borne disease.

A health department official said all 34 government
hospitals are kept ready to deal with rising cases of dengue.

Though spread of dengue fever was in control till now,
the last 10 days have seen five to six cases daily on an
average. Till this time of the season last year, Delhi had
reported 982 cases of dengue.
Civic bodies have intensified measures to prevent the
spread of dengue and sent notices to various government
buildings for high mosquito breeding.
