DGP refuses to transfer officer accused of supplying drugs

Stung by a sting operation against one of its officer by a drug dealer, Goa police chief Bhimsen Bassi claimed that the charges levied in the video footage are serious but refused to transfer the officer.

Bassi claimed that the charges levied in the video footage are
serious but refused to transfer the officer.

"The information is being examined. It will be premature
to tell now what action would be taken against the officer,"
Director General of Police Bhimsen Bassi told a press
conference this morning.

He said that the department is guided by certain
administrative procedures, which would be adhered in this
case.

Atala (full name not known), an Israeli drug dealer
residing in Goa, on a video tape uploaded on youtube.com had
confessed that police inspector Ashish Shirodkar, earlier
attached to anti narcotic cell (ANC), was supplying him with
the narcotics stolen from the locker in police custody.
Shirodkar is holding charge of Old Goa police station and
joined duty today after a three day-long leave as the seniors
refused to transfer or question him till the afternoon.

The video footage which is being examined by the police
also shows Atala claiming that the drugs sealed by the court
after arrest of the drug sellers was stolen by Shirodkar and
later pushed back in the market.
