London: Scientists have revealed that a polypill that is packed with aspirin, a statin and a blood-pressure drug can help fight heart diseases .
The potent three-in-one tablet, which would slash the number of people dying from heart attack and strokes, the Daily Express reported.
The study found that the single pill improved adherence by up to 33 per cent.
Mark Huffman, assistant professor in preventative medicine and medicine-cardiology at the Northwestern University in Illinois, said that the pill could be added next year to the World Health Organisation's 'Model List of Essential Medicines'.
Huffman said that the WHO has already named the polypill one of the 'top five best buys' for preventing chronic diseases globally and, while more research is needed, the polypill has the potential to avoid millions of premature deaths at low cost.
He also said that they expect to have different polypills with different doses of medication.
The study was published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
