An independent candidate today withdrew his candidature from Anantnag Lok Sabha seat in south Kashmir, leaving 12 candidates in the fray.

Srinagar: An independent candidate today withdrew his candidature from Anantnag Lok Sabha seat in south Kashmir, leaving 12 candidates in the fray.

Today was the last day for withdrawal of nominations from the constituency which is going to polls in the third phase of the five-phased elections in the state on April 24.
Abdul Rashid Dar, who had filed his papers from the constituency as an independent withdrew his papers, an official of the Election Office told PTI.

National Conference sitting MP Mehboob Beg is among 12 candidates who remained in the fray from the constituency.
While Beg is seeking re-election, his main opponents include PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.
The notification for the constituency was issued on March 29.

Spread over four districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama, the constituency has 12.72 lakh voters including 60,1688 woman voters who are eligible to cast their votes at 1,615 polling stations to be set up in the constituency.
