JK Congress still to take decision on alliance in civic polls

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress Sunday said it was still undecided on the issue of alliance with National conference for the civic polls to be held in the state soon.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of
Congress Sunday said it was still undecided on the issue of
alliance with National conference for the civic polls to be
held in the state soon.

"The policy with regard to participation in elections by
the Congress will be devised and announced shortly," JKCC
President Saifuddin Soz said.

He said the party has constituted two committees, one
each for Jammu and Kashmir. These committees have been asked
to identify suitable candidates for contesting elections.

Asked if the party would contest the polls on its own or
with an alliance with the NC, Soz said, "the committees will
decide this. They have been asked to devise the policy for
polls and they will shortly make announcements in this
regard."

However, he said his party will ensure the promotion of
the spirit of the coalition politics. "Our endeavour will be
to strengthen the coalition government in the state."

Meanwhile, sources said majority of the partymen are in
favour of contesting the civic polls separately.

The polls for civic bodies across the state are likely to
be held in April-May.
