Jammu: A day after the brutal and inhuman killing of two soldiers by Pakistani troops in Poonch, Army and BSF on Wednesday reviewed the security set up along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir.
The security situation and security measures have been reviewed at a high level meeting today at Rajouri based headquarters of 25 Infantry Division headed by 16 Corps Commander, Lt Gen D S Hooda.
Gen Hooda has visited the forward areas and met field commanders, who briefed him about the situation and security set up along the border.
Northern Command Chief Lt Gen KT Parnaik had visited the forward area and got a briefing from the field commanders about the incident during his visit to Poonch sector yesterday soon after the incident.
"Security review has been taken and vigilance has been mounted (along Indo-Pak border)", Deputy GOC 25 Infantry Div, Brig J K Tiwari told reporters in Rajouri.
"We face challenging situation along the border-- the area is difficult and we are always cautious and vigilant" Brig Tiwari said.
Asked about the need for upgradation of equipment and training for the troops to avoid such incidents, he said we are fully trained and well equipped to deal with the situation.
However, intrusions do take place often and ceasefire violations, aimed to infiltrate militants have become common, he added.
The two soldiers killed in the Poonch sector yesterday were Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh who hailed from Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh and Lance Naik Hemraj who was from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
Pakistani regular soldiers crossed into Indian territory at Mendher area and ambushed an Indian patrol killing two soldiers, both of them were brutally decapitated.
The attack took place along the LoC when Pakistani troops came about 600 metres into Indian territory and assaulted the patrol party.
BSF has put in place winter strategy to deal with
infiltration and Poonch like raids by Pakistani troops along the International Border (IB) in Jammu-Kathua sector of the state.
"After taking into consideration the incidents that have taken place in last 5-6 months, we have put in place winter strategy to deal with such situation", IG BSF, Jammu frontier, Rajeev Krishna told reporters here.
"We have activated the strategy after taking into account all these incidents", he said, adding, vulnerable and strategic points have been identified including border outposts and security strengthen.
"We have put in place anti-fog and surveillance devices apart from manual patrolling in this difficult weather conditions along the border", he said.
"We have also taken yesterday`s incident in Poonch into account-- there are couple of BOPs ahead of the fencing and necessary precautions have been directed to be taken by the officers and men there", he added.
