New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare’s health continued to deteriorate as his fast for a strong anti-graft Lokpal Bill entered its ninth day Wednesday.
Hazare was advised hospitalisation by the doctors late Tuesday night but the social activist refused and also decided against being put on Intravenous (IV) drip.
Addressing his supporters at Ramlila Maidan, Anna said his conscience didn’t allow him to take drips.
"I told him then that I would decide by 10.00 pm after listening to my conscience. My conscience asked me why are you afraid of dying? You had earlier said that you are not afraid of dying, then why are you scared of dying now," Anna said.
"I have decided not to take any medicine. I would ask Dr Trehan and others not to mistake me in this regard. Please do not mistake me for (not taking the medicine)," he added.
However, his close associate Manish Sisodia informed media persons from Ramlila Maidan early Wednesday morning that Anna was doing fine even though his health remains a matter of concern.
"He is alright at present. He is taking rest. A team of doctors is continuously monitoring him," Sisodia told reporters.
Hazare has lost 5.6 kg since he began his fast on August 16 and traces of ketone was also found in his blood.
Hazare yesterday disregarded doctor`s advice to be put on Intravenous (IV) drip and refused to take any medicine and warned government against trying to forcibly evict him from the protest site of Ramlila Maidan.
The team of doctors headed by Naresh Trehan had advised Hazare to get hospitalised but the Gandhian refused to do so.
"The entire team has examined Anna Hazare. There are changes in his vital signs. We told him that he needs hospitalisation. But he refused saying I want to be here with the people," Trehan had said.
Meanwhile, another close aide of Hazare Arvind Kejriwal said they are waiting for the government`s response on yesterday`s talks on their demands over the Jan Lokpal Bill.
"We are waiting for government response. We held a detailed discussion with government representative yesterday. We have already given them our demand in writing. They had told us to revert by today..." Kejriwal said.
"We want that government should accept all our demands. We have raised certain points which need to be answered by them. Both the Jan Lokpal Bill and Judicial Accountability Bill have to be passed by Parliament together," Kejriwal said when asked about when the 73-year-old Gandhian would end his fast.
