Vice President Hamid Ansari on Saturday asked Muslim women to emulate the achievements of women from countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Turkey in empowering themselves.

Patna: Vice President Hamid Ansari on Saturday
asked Muslim women to emulate the achievements of women from
countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Turkey in empowering
themselves in fields of literacy, economic power and autonomy
in decision making.
Muslim women were disempowered in the fields of literacy,
economic power and autonomy in decision making, he told a
function organised to celebrate the centenary of the founder
of the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Library here.

"What is needed is a virtual revolution in our approach
to this question. The examples of education of women in
Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran and Turkey and its eventual impact
on the status of women in the society can be emulated with
benefit," Ansari said.
The community should also make the best use of available
government assistance in an expanding economy to the goal of
self-empowerment, he said.

"There are a great many success stories in small and
medium businesses, educational institutions and in
professions. These need to be studied, publicised and
internalised," the Vice-president said.
