Chandigarh: The demand for an LED television and cash made by a senior forest officer and his assistant as a bribe from a businessman in Haryana`s Mewat district has landed them in trouble.

The Haryana vigilance bureau nabbed the divisional forest officer (DFO) of Mewat, Virender Singh Gill, and his clerk, Yogesh, Thursday for taking bribe for issuing forest clearance for installing a petrol pump, a senior vigilance officer said here Friday.
A case has been registered against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act, he added.

Inspector General of Vigilance Sheel Madhur said a complaint was made by Ram Avtar Singla of Nagina, alleging that the DFO was demanding an LED television costing Rs 42,000 for issuing forest clearance to him for installation of a petrol vend in Mewat district.

He said that after receiving the complaint, a raiding party was formed and it caught the clerk of the DFO while taking Rs 2,000 as bribe.

"Yogesh had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 while the DFO demanded LED television, which was recovered from him. The cost of LED television is about Rs 42,000," Madhur said.
