Gunmen attack sister of ANP chief in Peshawar

The step-sister of the chief of the ruling Awami National Party was injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan`s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, police said.

the ruling Awami National Party was injured in an attack by
unidentified gunmen in Pakistan`s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, police said.

Gulalai Khan, the step-sister of ANP President
Asfandyar Wali Khan, was attacked by the gunmen outside her
private medical clinic at Karachi Market in the northwestern
provincial capital Peshawar this evening.

The gunmen, who were riding two motorcycles, escaped
after the attack.

The attackers opened fire as Gulalai, a doctor, came
out of the clinic and sat in her car.

She sustained minor injuries when a bullet hit her
right hand, police said.

"She is out of danger," a police official told PTI.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Asfandyar is the grandson of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan,
who was known as Frontier Gandhi as he was he was a close
associate of Mahatma Gandhi.

Leaders and workers of the ANP, which rules
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and is part of the ruling
coalition at the centre, have been threatened by the Taliban.

Militants recently gunned down the only son of ANP
leader and provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar
Hussain.

The Taliban have vowed to carry out more attacks
against ANP leaders and their relatives in retaliation for
operations against militants in the country’s northwest.
