Washington: A new poll by the Pew Research Center has found out that only 26 percent Americans believe that the Assad regime will surrender its chemical weapon stockpiles.

According to the poll, 57 percent of the surveyed citizens of the United States said the Assad Government will hold on to the weapons, Politico reports.

Meanwhile, only 37 percent of those polled favored a military strike, compared to 49 percent opposing any kind of military involvement, in case Syria failed to keep up to the deal.

President Barack Obama had earlier asked the Congress to delay the voting on proposed military intervention in Syria after a diplomatic solution was offered by the Russian government to ask Syria for handing over its deadly weapons to international bodies.
