Seoul: US officials are scrambling to ease public anger in South Korea sparked by two sexual assault cases involving American soldiers.
US Army Brig Gen David Conboy apologised on Saturday for "pain" caused by allegations that a US soldier raped a teenage South Korean girl in her rented room in Seoul on September 17.
That solider is being questioned by police but has not been arrested.
Another US soldier has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage girl on September 24 in a city north of Seoul.
Top US diplomat for East Asia, Kurt Campbell, also apologised on Friday for what he called a "tragic and inexcusable rape that took place about a week ago”.
The US has 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea.
