Bhopal: Amidst continual cheers of "Modi, Modi" by the crowd and cold vibes with LK Advani, the Bharatiya Janata Party`s Prime Ministerial candidate on Wednesday attacked the UPA government, accusing it of misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation to target political opponents.
Addressing a big BJP workers` congregation here, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said it will be the CBI that will "fight" the coming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections and not the Congress party. He, however, refrained from elaborating on it.
"The Congress is not going to put up its candidates. It is not the Congress but the CBI which will fight the polls. The Congress does not have the capacity to fight the BJP. They have fielded the CBI. It (Congress) should hear clearly how it had been paid back by people for atrocities of the Emergency," Modi said.
The BJP has often accused the Congress of misusing the CBI for its political ends.
In an apparent show of unity, LK Advani and Narendra Modi today appeared on a public platform along with a pantheon of BJP for the first time after the declaration of party`s prime ministerial candidate but cold vibes were visible between the two leaders.

Claiming a wave across the country in favour of the BJP, Modi said the Congress was now talking of inclusive growth after states ruled by BJP have always performed well on this front.
Addressing the rally here, Modi said Congress should be overthrown as its government at the Centre discriminates against BJP and NDA-ruled states.
Modi claimed Congress does not have the power to take on BJP and the people are going to punish it for their problems.
"We have to free this nation of the Congress. We have to free this nation of Congress` actions. Free the nation from the corruption of the Congress," he said and asked the crowd whether they would implement Mahatma Gandhi`s last wish that the Congress party should be wound up after independence. The crowd shouted back with a resounding yes.
"The meaning of fulfilment of Mahatma Gandhi`s wish is freeing the nation of Congress, its corruption, its misdeeds, its nepotism and establishing true democracy," he said.
"All surveys are predicting a victory for us. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari," he asserted.

In his speech, Advani said it was a matter of pride that the Prime Ministerial candidate chosen by the party was in their midst. He also praised Modi`s role in complete electrification of Gujarat, which was followed by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Chief Ministers.
Even as Modi is on a spree addressing rallies across the country, Advani, in his speech, said, "Today if BJP has reached this place in Indian politics it is not because of eloquent speeches but the hard work and penance of party workers. We will not win elections merely on the basis of speeches but on the basis of the work done by us."
He hailed the performance of the erstwhile NDA government at the Centre and BJP governments in various states. He praised the performance of Modi as well as Chouhan and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.
Advani made a special mention of the presence of BJP`s Prime Ministerial candidate, saying the party has chosen him for the post.
With crowds chanting Modi`s name, Advani ended his brief speech. Modi, in his address, accused the ruling Congress of discriminating against non-Congress ruled states.
"There was not one state government when there was Atal-Advani government at the centre which complained about being neglected by the Centre. Now, the government in Delhi does not let Shivraj Singh Chouhan be in peace."
Modi heaped praise on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and said his efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the people have been hampered by the hurdles created by the Centre in the implementation of his programmes.
He said, Congress has, of late, started talking about "inclusive growth" as BJP ruled states have always emphasised on it.
Modi accused Congress of not doing anything without politics in mind and said it has "eaten away lakhs of crores" of rupees by corruption.
He recalled that during the Emergency, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had introduced the 20-point programme for the welfare of the weaker sections of the society and BJP and NDA-ruled states were amongst the top five best performing states, forcing the Congress to stop its monitoring to avoid embarrassment.
The BJP`s Prime Ministerial candidate said it only indicated that Congress-ruled states had failed to do anything for the poor in the country.
Modi said that according to his information no reviews of the programme were now been undertaken simply because their results portrayed the Congress in a very poor light.
Rajnath Singh, who spoke after Advani, said, "Modi can become the Prime Minister of the country and Shivraj Singh Chouhan the Chief Minister in Madhya Pradesh" only if the worker of BJP at booth level works hard.
Joshi, Swaraj and Jaitley expressed confidence that Chouhan would perform a hat-trick by winning the Assembly Election again in Madhya Pradesh.
