With our bodies more vulnerable to diseases and infections during the monsoon season, we should take extra care of our eating habits during this time.

Below are a few tips on what you should and should not eat during the monsoon season.

Foods you should eat:

Hot Soups: Vegetable soups are a great option to indulge in the rainy season. Warm nutrition-packed veggie soups will not just help you stay away from cold and flu, but also help you stay healthy and hydrated.

Tea: Have tea, especially herbal ones- this will keep bouts of influenza away. Herbal teas are also good for digestion.

Dry meals: Try to avoid watery or semi-solid food items. Instead go for dry foods to avoid bacterial infection.

Foods you should avoid:

Juice: Avoid drinking any fruit/vegetable juices when it rains, especially from outside. Even if you want to have it, prepare it at home and consume it immediately.

Sea Foods: Sea foods like fish, prawns, crabs, etc, should be avoided because this season is their breeding time. If you can't manage to give in to your cravings, see to it that they are fresh, else, you may end up having stomach infections or food poisoning in the worst case.

Raw Food: Try not to eat any kind of raw food or salads in the monsoon. Having them could lead to food infection and other health problems such as jaundice, typhoid.
